Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Opening in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH—This October, Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh will make its debut as Kimpton’s first-ever hotel in The Steel City. Hotel Monaco will be downtown Pittsburgh’s first luxury boutique hotel, boasting an eclectic design and a prime location on the corner of 6th Avenue and William Penn Place.

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is transforming the iconic Beaux Arts-style James H. Reed Building, originally built in 1903, into one of its dynamic Hotel Monacos featuring nine stories, 247 guestrooms, and over 10,000 square feet of meeting space. Tapping the Monaco’s signature whimsical sense of wonder, Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh embraces clever design that pairs the original Beaux Arts architecture and local flavor with modern patterns, textures, and designs. The hotel’s color palette features bold yellow, black, and white hues, colors which pop up in every Pittsburgh neighborhood. The palette, representative of the city’s professional sports teams and the hues that adorn the city’s flag, show up both fiercely and subtly throughout the hotel’s charming accents.

The hotel offers six event spaces, including the picturesque Sheffield and Sofia Ballrooms. The Monaco’s meeting rooms are named after Pittsburgh notables—Clemente, Salk, Carson, and Fahlman.

Each guestroom will sport amenities such as a 39-inch flat-screen TV, wireless internet, iHome, in-room spa services, on-demand movies, and gourmet honor bar selections including hometown favorites such as Clark Bars and a selection of Pennsylvania beers. The guestroom bathrooms are bright and cheery with soft yellow herringbone wallpaper. Adjacent to the Hotel Monaco at the corner of William Penn Place and Strawberry Way, Kimpton will also open a new modern American eatery led by Kimpton kitchen veteran Executive Chef Dennis Marron. At this 120-seat eatery guests can expect comforting wood fire dishes, a selection of local ales and spirits, and a vibrant design.
