HRI Lodging to Manage Birmingham’s Tutwiler Hotel

NEW ORLEANS—HRI Lodging will manage the historic Tutwiler Hotel in downtown Birmingham, AL, following its acquisition by Interwest Capital Corporation.

Interwest Capital acquired the Tutwiler earlier in June. It marks the sixth hotel property in the company’s commercial real estate portfolio.

“We are thrilled that Interwest has brought us in to manage The Tutwiler,” said Gary Gutierrez, president of HRI Lodging. “The hotel has such a rich background, which makes it the perfect addition to HRI Lodging’s portfolio of historic properties.”

The hotel, which was recently flagged under the Hampton Inn and Suites umbrella, is designated as a National Historic Landmark, and was originally opened in 1914. The original structure was imploded in 1974 to make way for the First Alabama Bank building. The Tutwiler reopened in 1986 a block away in the old Ridgely Apartments building constructed in 1913 and also owned by the Tutwiler family.

The Hampton Inn & Suites Birmingham-Downtown-Tutwiler has 149 guestrooms and suites and a ballroom, boardroom and meeting rooms.
