Marriott Launches New Workspace Concept

9/25/2012 | The Scene
Business travelers continue to be important assets to hotels in terms of generating revenue. And hotels that incorporate functional and innovative meeting spaces will undoubtedly bring in more business. Marriott Hotels & Resorts has launched a whole new concept called Workspring at Marriott that offers an on-site suite designed with today's technology-savvy traveler in mind.

Workspring at Marriott is specifically designed as a collaborative space for small meeting groups. The suite combines common work areas, personal work areas, and a food and beverage area for breaks and snacking.

The concept was designed by Steelcase, a company that creates comprehensive workspace environments for businesses, and the design includes five studios of varying sizes to accommodate meetings from three to 75 attendees. Natural lighting and ergonomic furnishings are important components of the design.

"We are seizing the opportunity to offer the new generation of travelers a small meetings environment built to suit their collaborative work style,” said Paul Cahill, senior vice president of brand management for Marriott Hotels & Resorts, in an announcement. “While some competitors may have nibbled around the edges with incremental and tactical changes, Marriott Hotels & Resorts is leading with a strategic approach to small meetings that hotel guests and nearby businesses will find very appealing.”

Workspring at Marriott offers an inclusive pricing structure that includes the meeting space, technology, wireless access, office supplies and food and beverage, all of which is handled by a dedicated host.

Redmond Marriott Town Center, near Seattle, is the first hotel to offer the small meetings suit, and Cahill says the brand will use the hotel as a testing ground for the new concept and will work on identifying other markets where Workspring makes sense.
