The Catalina Gears Up for Reality Television Debut
Miami Beach is a party town, and The Catalina Hotel, a member of South Beach Hotels Group, fits right into the landscape of beach bodies, neon-lit nightclubs, and colorful cocktail drinks. Next week, TV viewers will get a chance to experience all the drama, fun, and excitement of operating a hotel in Miami when "The Catalina" debuts on the CW.
The new reality series follows the hotel owners and staff as they go through their day-to-day activities—which often includes partying with hotel guests into the wee hours of the morning.
"Most hoteliers try to keep the behind-the-scenes private," says Nathan Lieberman, owner of the Catalina Hotel. "But I thought it would be fun and exciting to give my guests and my viewers a sneak peek into the lives of the staff when they're at work and when they're not at work."
Lieberman, who also developed the concept for the show through his production company Beach Pictures, describes his staff as "a wild, fun-loving group of people." Cast members include the two pool bartenders Nancy and Kris, bartender David, pool cocktail server DeDe, manager of Kung Fu restaurant Morgan, restaurant bartender Eyal, and the front-desk team of Vicky and Karina.
"The staff enjoys spending time with each other inside and outside of work," says Lieberman. "South Beach is such a unique place, and we try to give our guests an experience unlike any other city."
But Lieberman insists that the show isn't just about the wild and crazy antics of the guests and the staff. He explains the the series will give viewers insight into the hotel industry and what it takes to run a successful beach-front property.
"This show is really about the hotel business," he says. "Each episode takes you through events we're planning and things we're organizing at The Catalina. Nothing is ever perfect, but we're going to show viewers those imperfections taking place and how we problem-solve and troubleshoot them."
"The Catalina" debuts on the CW Network on Tuesday, May 29 at 8 p.m. For more information visit www.cwtv.com.
