Discovering the Latest Technology in Guestroom 20X

6/29/2012 | The Scene
The Lodging staff recently returned from HITEC, the industry's largest technology trade show which is presented every year by HFPT. This year, the convention was held in Baltimore.

One feature that attendees had the chance to see this year was a new incarnation of
Guestroom 20X, the guestroom of the future that is set up biannually as part of the convention. The showcase incorporated some of the newest technology products on the market for hotels.

The products ran the gamut from high-tech televisions and keyless entry systems to massaging mattresses and wireless charging stations.

Samsung showed off its new
Smart TV which employed voice navigation and gesture control. When a person standing in front of the television simply said, "Hi TV," the television powered on. The gesture control allowed for navigation without a remote control and clicking on a certain area of the screen was as simple as closing your hand. The television also features a full web browser and LED technology to save on energy costs over traditional LCD televisions. The new Smart TV is currently not available for commercial use, but representatives from the company explained that the brand is hoping to develop the product, or a similar version of the product, for hotels in the near future.

While not quite as visually dynamic as a television screen, Fulton Innovations debuted the
Qi Wireless Power Grommet in Guestroom 20X. These grommets fit directly into the surface of desks and will enable wireless charging with any Qi-enabled device. These small and seamless devices can help get rid of pesky cords or bulky charging stands.

Another fun feature in the constructed room was the
Flip Around TV Mount from Hidden Vision TV Mounts. This product allows for hotels to hide a television screen with dynamic artwork that fits in with the design scheme of the room. Then, when a guest wants to watch TV, the artwork flips on the wall with the press of a button to reveal a flat screen television.

Other cool products highlighted in Guestroom 20X included the
Dream Sleep System from Reverie and Moving Murals wall display from Epic Eye. The Dream Sleep System is a bed that allows for customization based on the positioning of foam rollers in the mattress. Different patterns of the rollers adjust the firmness of the mattress. The bed also comes with massage capabilities and technology that allows guests to adjust the height of the head and foot of the bed. The Moving Murals wall display is a multi-sensory art display. It delivers visuals from a subscriber gallery with the addition and scent and sounds to create a unique guestroom experience.

The technology offerings from the Guestroom 20X display were incredibly innovative and we wish we had space to mention all of them. But make sure to visit our
Innovation Showcase in the next few weeks as we'll be highlighting some of the latest technology products from this year's HITEC convention.
