AH&LA, Employer Community Launch Initiative to Restore 40-Hour Work Week

Following passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), AH&LA embarked on an aggressive effort to bring about a change to the current definition of a full-time employee, which the ACA reduces to 30 hours per week. In partnership with the employer community, AH&LA has announced the launch of More Time for Full-Time, a new campaign that highlights the negative impact the 30-hour work week has on employers and employees in various industries. The coalition asks Congress, specifically the U.S. Senate, to take action now to restore the traditional work week. This campaign is targeted at lawmakers and influencers in Washington, D.C. “AH&LA has been at the forefront in pressing this issue since the ACA became law and has sought opportunities to make sure lawmakers understand the consequences of the 30-hour work week on the hotel industry,” AH&LA President/CEO Katherine Lugar wrote in an email to members. The Save American Workers Act passed the House on April 3, 2014, and similar legislation is pending in the Senate. See what’s happening over at More Time for Full-Time.
