HD Expo 2012: Mode Chair | Humanscale
Humanscale unveiled Mode at this year's HD Expo. Featuring a flexible back that reclines up to 12 degrees to encourage an ergonomic posture and dense foam cushions that are sculpted to accommodate the body’s natural contours for hours of comfortable sitting, Mode surpasses the limitations of traditional hospitality chairs. Mode’s modular design preserves the life of the chair, helps to reduce costs, and provides comfort not only for the sitter but also for those who have to stack and repair the chair. Made from various lightweight materials including aluminum, Mode’s durable form can be quickly and easily disassembled and replaced in-field, for a long serviceable life. And rather than requiring costly whole-chair replacement when damage occurs, Mode has cushions that can be unscrewed and lifted off and then sent to an outside facility if they become stained or tarnished. Moreover, all four of Mode’s legs can be simply unscrewed and therefore replaced with new legs without difficulty or exorbitant expense. Mode can be efficiently stacked 12 chairs high—and still maintain a lower, more ergonomic height than a stack of 10 traditional hospitality chairs—for fast transitions and valuable space savings.

Well, Kris, I didn't pay for it! It's my employer's obitoailgn to provide (and pay for) a more ergonomic chair if I have physician's verification that my back is hurting and would benefit from a better chair. It's called work accomodation. Something like this is proactive instead of reactive. Some people's work accomodation is that they get less work to do that one doesn't make too much sense to me unless they get paid less, which they don't .
