IHMRS & BDNY Announce 2010 Editors' Choice Award Winners

NEW YORK, N.Y.—Nine exhibitors were honored with Editors' Choice Awards during the Opening Ceremonies of the 95th annual International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show (IHMRS) and the inaugural Boutique Design New York (BDNY) at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The Awards program recognizes best new products within the categories of design, equipment & supplies, guest amenities, linens, and technology, as well as an eco-friendly equivalent to each of these categories. From the  nine winners, the Kenneth F. Hine "Best of Show" Award also was selected.

The 2010 Editors' Choice Award winners are:

Kenneth F. Hine "Best of Show"— Hotmixpro-Cooking Pleasure (Modena, Italy) for HotmixPRO, an innovative machine designed to operate simultaneously as both a mixer for blending liquids and a cutter for chopping solid ingredients.

Design—Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams (Taylorsville, N.C.) for the Super Luxe Sleeper Sofa, the newest in sleeper sofa design and comfort featuring a zip off pillow top for easy replacement and a sturdy anti-tipping mechanism with a convenient handle for easy access.

Equipment & Supplies—Hotmixpro-Cooking Pleasure (Modena, Italy) for HotmixPRO, an innovative machine designed to operate simultaneously as both a mixer for blending liquids, and a cutter for chopping solid ingredients.

Guest Amenities—Travel Tot (Denville, N.J.) for Travel Childproofing Kit, an all-in-one childproofing kit that provides a layer of protection and peace of mind for traveling families, including outlet covers, cabinet door fasteners, corner cushions, and more.

Linens—Valley Forge Fabrics Inc. (Pompano Beach, Fla.) for Expand-A-Grip, a fitted girdle that stretches in two different directions making it easy to install over the mattress and/or boxspring, preventing shifting.

Technology—Micros Systems Inc. (Columbia, Md.) for MyStayManager, a user-friendly mobile smartphone application that allows guests to create reservations and self-manage details of their stay through a handheld device.

Green Design—GreenChance for EcoSmarttm Scope 700 Fireplace Grate, designed for an impact with a bold appearance and long elegant flame, ideal for bringing life back to old, unused fireplaces.

Green Equipment & Supplies—Systemfiltration Inc. (Milford, N.J.) for VITO Oil Filter System, a system that filters fryer oil to save as much as 50 percent off oil cost.

Green Guest Amenities—Cintas Corporation (Chicago, Ill.) for Washable Tuxedo, a single-breasted "green" tuxedo for men and women partially composed of recycled polyester fibers woven from recycled plastic bottles.

Green Technology—Vingcard Elsafe (Richardson, Texas) for Orion, an intelligent energy management solution that allows hotel properties to adjust guestroom temperatures remotely from a central location, reducing energy costs as guests enter and leave guestrooms.

Editors from leading hospitality trade publications reviewed nearly 100 submissions of cutting-edge, new products, and selected winners based on innovative product design, how a product answers a particular industry need, creative use of material or construction, and development or use of a new technology.
